Partners & Affiliates

It is important to the Breathe Chicago Center© (BCC) staff and leadership to work alongside national and international groups with common goals and missions.  BCC staff is encouraged by leadership to broaden their professional networks and knowledge base by becoming active members of professional societies.  Below are some of the groups the BCC partners with on funded projects, and/or with whom staff hold positions on executive committees, working groups, or advisory panels.

COPD Foundation

The COPD Foundation has been a long time partner of the BCC. We have collaborated with the COPD Foundation on a number of large nation-wide research projects (see PELICAN and RELIANCE projects).  As a leading patient advocacy organization, the COPD Foundation is a valuable partner and consultant to the BCC to ensure we keep the patient and caregiver at the center of our work.

Respiratory Health Association

The Respiratory Health Association (RHA) is an important local public health leader in the Chicago metropolitan area. The BCC is proud to be an ally of the RHA, collaborating on a number of projects, including a childhood asthma project based in emergency departments across Chicago (see the CHICAGO Plan). BCC Director, Jerry Krishnan, has also served on the RHA Board, and the BCC is a proud participant in the RHA’s annual CHILL event and Hustle up the Hancock events.

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

BCC Director, Dr. Jerry Krishnan, has served on multiple Study Sections for the NHLBI. Serving on Study Sections involves reviewing multiple grant applications, as well as providing feedback to applicants, and building networks with lead researchers across the country.

American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is a community of individuals and organizations that provides continuing education and current practice information to Nurse Practitioners across the country. Research Manager and APN, Nina Bracken is currently a member of AANP.

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

We are proud of Wendy Hasse, a Clinical Research Coordinator within our program and a licensed dietitian, who is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a part of the Diabetes Dietetic Practice Group and Research Dietetic Practice Group, which are branches of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Wendy uses this affiliation to stay in contact with the community of Nutrition and Dietetics experts, and bring this aspect of care to her work at the BCC.

American Thoracic Society (ATS)

The American Thoracic Society (ATS) is an international society for professionals involved in the care of people living with respiratory disease. The ATS publishes statements and guidelines that lead clinical practice around the world. BCC Director, Dr. Jerry Krishnan, has been a long time member, and has been actively engaged in numerous committees, working groups, and has held leadership positions within the ATS.

Research Manager and APN, Nina Bracken is currently a member of the ATS International Conference Committee and a member of the Executive Committee for the Nursing Assembly within the ATS.
